NEU Strike Action Days - 5th & 7th July 2023

Friday 30th June 2023

Re: NEU Strike Action Days on Weds 5th and Friday 7th July – school closed to all pupils

Dear Parent/Guardian(s)

Further to the message from school last week, this is to confirm that the school will be closed to all pupils next Wednesday (5th) and Friday (7th) July. It will be open on Thursday 6th July.

This is due to NEU (National Education Union) strike action on those days, and our risk assessment around Safeguarding and Health and Safety, which I have discussed with Sarah Bustard, Chair of Governors. I will inform the Local Authority (LA), together with Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Education Transport Services.

Please therefore do go ahead and make alternative arrangements for your child on those 2 days.

For pupils who have Free School Meals (FSM), we have ordered a £5 voucher from Sodexo, and you will receive this in the usual way. This is to cover both of the strike action days next week.

While your child is at home on Wednesday and Friday, please access the ‘Learning At Home’ tab on our website, where there are lots of ideas for a range of learning activities you can do with your child, using resources we hope you can find in the home. There are also stories and ‘how to’ videos you can watch, and past assemblies with lots of interesting topics for the pupils to learn about, linked to their curriculum work. You can access these learning activities here: Learning at Home

On Wednesday 5th July the NEU have invited families to take a picnic and join them for a Picnic in the Park at the Forest Recreation Ground from 12-2pm – there will be free ice cream, and activities for children with additional needs. If there is any progress before next Wednesday in terms of the national negotiations, I will of course inform you of this at the earliest opportunity.

On Saturday (8th July), from 2pm, it is OakFest! in the school grounds, and we do hope you can join us for festival fun activities in the afternoon and live music in the evening – see attached flyer.  Bring the family, and bring a picnic – and there will of course be accessible toilets and changing facilities.

Yours sincerely

Patricia Lewis (Headteacher)
